Project

Innovative strategies, sensing and process Chains for increased Quality, reconfigurability, and recyclability of Manufacturing Optoelectronics

Project Grant Agreement N°820677

Duration: 42 months

Funded under: H2020-DT-FOF-03-2018, Innovative manufacturing of opto-electrical parts

Funding schema: Research and Innovation Action

Advances in optoelectronics technologies is causing a revolution in consumer electronic goods, solar energy, LED, industrial laser, and other fields.

The optoelectrical manufacturing is facing the evolution of the equipment and manufacturing processes, the increase in complexity, volume of demand and customization. Such a trend combined with pressure to control production costs imply that systems configurations need to change more frequently and dynamically. In this scenario, automation and sustainability strategies are the most logical route to reduce the production costs.

The vision of IQONIC is the development of a holistic framework applicable both to new and existing manufacturing lines of opto-electronics to achieve flexibility, zero-defect production, and sustainability.

IQONIC is offering a scalable zero defect manufacturing platform covering the overall process chain, ranging from the design of new opto-electrical components and their required optimized process chain, their assembly process, to their disassembly and reintroduction into the value chain at their end-of-life through eight scalable strategies.

8 STRATEGIES

DIAGNOSE

Early detection of the varying nature of the next part to be produced: both material sensitivity and product design parameters.

PREVENT

Preventing defects by recalibration of the production line, as well as preventing defect propagation to later stages of production.

PREDICT

Predicting possible defects and expected quality, allowing tuning  before production of the product.

SUSTAIN

Planning the rework or re-manufacture of the product, if possible, and eventual  re-use and/or re-qualification.

ADJUST

Adapting process chains to the specific needs of each new part through an iterative process to reach acceptable quality.

MANAGE

Managing all this through event modelling, KPI monitoring and real-time decision support systems.

DETECT

Early detection of defects, to adapt part parameters to previously successful states and to decide to send parts down- or up-stream.

REDESIGN

Providing feedback on design performance and knowledge to production of future parts and iterations of design to make better products and process chain.
