In the frame of the on-site visits to the project end-users foreseen by iQonic, project partners met in Neuchatel, Switzerland, on 21st January, for the second technical meeting in Alpes Laser.

Alpes Laser is an engineering company pioneering advanced light sources, especially Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCLs) used in various applications such as gas detection. Given its role of end-user in the project, Alpes Laser will adopt methods and concepts developed within the project in order to improve production yield and lead-times and minimize waste.

On-site visits are intended to define end-user functional and non-functional requirements that technology providers should take into account for a successful design of the project architecture to optimize the manufacturing lines for optoelectrical components’ production and systems’ configurations.

At the meeting in Neuchatel, Tobias Gresch, process design manager in Alpes Laser, introduced iQonic partner the general process of Lasers production and its value chain. The meeting proved to be productive and of great relevance for partner: it gathered general interest and provided partners with a very good example for issues along the photonics production value chain to be investigated and optimized.

The on-site visits to the project end-users will continue over the year and the next visit is going to be held at Prima Electro S.p.A. in Turin, on 26th February 2019.
